Konya is the 7th largest city in Turkey and probably the most conservative city in the west of Turkey. It was the capital of the Selcuk Empire in the 13 century but most importantly it is the founding place of the Whirling Dervish Sect.
Konya is the seventh largest city in Turkey situated 1,200 metres above sea level on the Anatolian Plain.
Major industries are agriculture (wheat and sugar beets), cement, confectionary, carpets.
